They are made when the stabilizing plant cover of an existing linear dune is destroyed exposing the sand to the wind. A ridge, often referred to as a blowout, is then pushed into the dune beyond. Notes 1. Savary's parabolic dunes trend to the northwest. This means that they were formed by paleowinds [the winds of the past] that blew from the southeast. |
