(Aka Grindelia integrifolia | Puget Sound gumweed)
A perennial herb that grows from a taproot and forms colonies. It occurs all along the BC coast near beaches.  Notes 1. For a complete and detailed description of this herb, click here. 2. It is called gumweed because the leaves and flowers are “gummy”; this is due to a very sticky, white, resinous latex it contains. According to Gladys Bloomfield, when she was little, the kids on Savary used to call them sticky daisies. 3. The descriptor entire is a taxonomical term used for leaves that are smooth-edged (not divided), such as this plant's uppermost leaves. |
