The organization that actually governs Savary Island. Savary Island is part of Electoral Area A of the PRRD. Area A is represented on the PRRD Board of Directors by an elected Area Director who is elected every three years. Notes 1. "For the longest time, there was no government to speak of on Savary. Although the island fell under the jurisdiction of one entity or another, island politics and political activity remained in the background. Eventually, Savary Island came under Powell River Regional District. In the late 1990s the Regional District set down the long path to establish an official community plan for the island." In April 2002, the PPRD awarded a $15,000 contract to Thurber Engineering Ltd. for a geotechnical engineering study, to confirm the location, size, and sensitivity of the inland dune area. According to the Terms of Reference, the study was to conduct shoreline mapping of the Island, and evaluate the impact that land setbacks will have on existing and proposed development, at four separate locations on Savary Island.
