![]() Duck bay at low tide One of the most beautiful and unusual areas on the island - and it was almost lost to development. "Dear SILT Members, What an eventful year 2018 has been so far for SILT and Savary Islanders! It began in February, with the news a deal had been reached between The Sahlin Family, long time owners of 50% undivided interest in DL 1375, and a group of Islanders called The Friends of Savary, to purchase their interest in the 350- acre property. Four months, and 4 million dollars later, the property has been purchased and transferred to The Nature Trust of BC. They now own 100% interest in this last remaining unsubdivided tract of land on Savary and almost 1/3 of the lsland is protected as greenspace. (2) Stay on Vancouver Boulevard. You'll pass Riggers and turn-offs for Brian's Way, Patricia Crescent, etc. (3) Continue down the hill till it flattens at the bottom. On your left you'll see a sign that says you've reached Duck Bay. ![]() Young girl walks on water at Duck Bay. It's a magical place. Notes 1. "A shallow reef of massive boulders - left behind by glacial run-off during the last de-glaciation in this area - extends for hundreds of metres off-shore, deterring powerboats and vacationers from approaching too closely. This coupled with a lack of development in the central portion of Savary means that the area known as Duck Bay is virtually deserted at all times of year, with the occasional exception of residents walking their dogs in the trails behind the beach."
